I hope the squeak implies a larger place than that, and company in inhabiting it-a listening ear and willing help.Ī lot of my poems act as notes to self: I’m trying to send a message to my daily self from the part of me that knows better or more. How is this absence of setting liberating for the poem? For you as a poet?īell: In this poem, the location is the itch, I think-is pain, which can tend to eclipse where we are and who we’re around, by funneling all our attention to its place in our bodies or in psychic space. SR : In “Against Stoicism,” there’s a refusal to make location concrete. At least some things about the world have changed for the better since I was eighteen and trying real hard to look both like myself and like the limited versions of girl that were available to me. That felt infinitely more right than the almost brutally public spaces of my high-school years-hallways, dressing rooms, the bedazzled gym. In what ways can place reveal a person to themselves?īell: Oh, senior prom: source of misery but also poems! I grew up running around in the woods-in a space where gender was, if not irrelevant, less a thing I had to define myself by. In both, the speaker finds herself unsuited to the setting: “pretending I was this / had a limit, and I’d reached it.” The glitzy ideal the speaker has of herself is unsustainable. SR : Your poem “Sheen” occurs in multiple places: a Dillard’s, a high school dance. It should be obvious by now, but nobody has a corner on writing from or about place. One of the things that excites me most in my work on the magazine is making more room for work that considers place in relation to race, class, gender, sexuality, and other aspects of who we are, and for work from writers historically underrepresented in this part of the literary world. Responses from our contributors-Anna Maria Hong, Kamilah Aisha Moon, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, and Lesley Wheeler among them-have each surprised and delighted me in their thinking through landscapes and people’s effects on them. I wanted to give writers the chance to focus on the ecological and cultural places a beloved poem evokes, as well as on their own experiences of reading the poem in place. On becoming editor of Ecotone some years back, I created a new department for the magazine, Poem in a Landscape. It taught me a lot of what I know about poems. It’s ambrosia, an embrace, a planty everything. You cannot beat the smell of the air in spring in the piedmont. That many of those living systems are under deep threat-from climate crisis, development, overuse and underappreciation-makes it all the more important to let place into creative work, to acknowledge both a source and a debt.Ī lot of the poems in Ornament try to give thanks to the place that raised me, by showing a little of what it can feel like to be in the woods there. And our bodies are sustained, both physically and otherwise, by living systems and landscapes. As the editor of Ecotone, a magazine that explores the many facets of place, what draws you most to the potential of place? How do places live in your own poetry?īell: When we say a poem aloud, we recreate it with our bodies it becomes part of us. SR : In your first book, Ornament, many of your poems are closely intertwined with a sense of place. We asked Bell about her poems “Sheen” and “Against Stoicism” from the Fall 2019 issue, about poems as “notes to self,” and about how her work as an editor responds to our debt and responsibility to place. Anna Lena Phillips Bell, editor of Ecotone and author of the poetry collection Ornament, recently spoke to us about the significance of place in creative work, especially those places under threat of environmental degradation.

There were only 4 (2x4) rafter ties/ceiling joists spaced about 6 feet apart for the 24 foot run spanning the 18 foot wide garage. ‘I also love to install metal bin storage racks that hang from the ceiling and allow you to stack storage tubs underneath or on top to maximize storage along garage walls,’ says Megan Dufresne. ‘You can buy garage storage systems that attach to the ceiling or the wall.’ ‘The key to maximizing garage storage space is to think vertically,’ says Dunn. To optimize garage storage space, you need to use walls, the floor, and the ceiling. Once you’ve been through this process, you’ll know how much storage you need and won’t overspend. I don't want to find myself unable to eject the drive. It is really important that I figure this out, before I get another new external drive. Is the maybe a Command Prompt solution for ejecting an external drive? Any other way? I myself had to reformat a brand-new drive after just unplugging it without properly ejecting it (it just wouldn't eject). You may see a message like the one above, telling you that there may be a program using that volume. However, I see complaints in discussions that say that Quick Removal is not working as intended. The easiest and safest way to force a volume to eject is to open a new Finder window, locate the drive or volume in the left-hand column, right-click or option-click the volume, and select Eject Volume Name in the drop down menu. I have Quick Removal set to on, so I can if I understand correctly, simply disconnect any drive anytime without fear of the drive getting corrupted. Is there a similar feature on the PC? Some Tailoring gear provides unique bonuses found nowhere else, but the primary reason to take this profession is the incredible amount of money it can generate. Tailoring - Often chosen by casters, Tailoring makes light Cloth gear.Later Leatherworking builds rely heavily on it and many of the materials can be quite rare, though, so it balances out towards the end. Skinning - Skinning is another gathering profession but it's by far the least lucrative in the early going.Sometimes miners come across gems and stones used in other crafting recipes. Miners need to carry a Mining Pick and must smelt the ore they get at anvils to turn it into bars that can be used in recipes. Mining - Mining is once again a very profitable profession thanks to its reliance on gathering raw materials that are used across many other professions.Leatherworking provides decent resistance stats in PvE situations and are useful to Hunters because they can make ammo pouches that improve Ranged Attack Speed. Leatherworking - Leatherworking is often paired with Skinning and is used to make Leather and Mail gear.Herbs are required by Alchemy users for raiding, making them highly in-demand. Herbalism - Herbalism is popular because it's profitable.Engineers need Mining materials quite often, but Engineering recipes borrow from most professions at regular intervals, so Engineers should expect to spend more on materials than many other Primary Professions might otherwise. It's also the best PvP profession thanks to its gadgets. Engineering - Engineering is the wackiest profession, not really occupying a specifically great spot but being a great Hunter profession for DPS.Enchanters mostly use high-quality gear as resources for the profession, but it's also paired well with Tailoring since many casters choose to use Enchanting as their Primary. Enchanting - Enchanting allows players to enhance gear slots permanently, as well as disenchant gear into dust that is then used to help fuel Enchanting.Blacksmithing uses materials from Mining, mostly. Blacksmiths need to use a Blacksmith Hammer to craft their wares and all crafting must be done at an Anvil. Blacksmithing - Blacksmithing is usually the choice for plate-wearers since it produces heavy armor and strong weapons in Sword and Axe specializations (as well as many others). It relies on materials from Herbalism and Fishing for most of its recipes. Alchemy - Alchemy is a popular choice for PvE players since it provides a lot of strong consumables for raid content.WoW Classic Primary Professions Breakdown Artisan - Level 35 required for Production Professions, Level 25 required for Gathering Professions, and Level 10 required for Fishing.Expert - Level 20 required for Production Professions, and Level 10 required for Gathering and Fishing Professions.Journeyman - Level 10 required for Production/Fishing Professions, no requirement for Gathering.Apprentice - Level 5 required for Production/Fishing Professions, no requirement for Gathering.Player levels are also required to sync up with specific skill level requirements: Swapping professions causes all ranks to be lost and the player to start at level 1, so it's not recommended - make sure to choose the correct profession the first time around! Players need to hit a certain skill level in their profession before returning to a profession trainer to learn the next rank. WoW Classic profession ranks are also straightforward. The other professions are considered to be Secondary Professions and can be learned without restriction: Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid. Players can only choose two Primary Professions, which are as follows: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Herbalism, Leatherworking, Mining, Skinning, and Tailoring. The Gathering Professions are Fishing, Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning. The raw resources can also be sold to people looking to raise their Production Profession level, making them lucrative endeavors as well. The professions help supplement the Production Professions, as they allow players to gather the materials necessary to craft the items from them. Gathering Professions are the WoW Classic professions that players will likely spend the most time engaging in. The two Service Professions are Enchanting and First Aid. Service Professions do not generate items that are equip-able, but they allow players to instead create goods that benefit themselves and other players, often at a premium.
